Bagira is a proud ally and self-taught artist based in Curaçao, known for her striking portraits and vibrant murals. In 2024 and 2025, she opened her gallery doors to Curaçao Pride, hosting our Sip & Sign Mixer and going above and beyond to ensure its success.
Her artistic journey began unexpectedly — just two weeks after discovering her talent, she left her job as a sales agent at an accounting firm to pursue painting full-time, focusing on portrait commissions. Over time, her passion expanded to teaching and creating large-scale murals. In just eight years as an independent artist, Bagira has become one of Curaçao’s most renowned creatives, captivating audiences with portraits of both real and imagined people that radiate beauty and emotion.
Born to a Hungarian mother and Algerian father, Bagira grew up across the Netherlands, Hungary, Algeria, and Belgium before settling in Curaçao at 19 to live with her sister. Her Kabyle (Indigenous North African) heritage and global upbringing deeply influence her work, enriching her perspective on people and culture. Having lived independently since the age of 16, she developed a fearless spirit — a quality that shines through in both her art and her unwavering support for the LGBTQ+ community.
